Have you ever seen two frogs hugging? If not, let me tell you, it’s truly a disturbing sight. When we were in Kauai, we kept driving by this store called Two Frogs Hugging. Now if the name isn’t weird enough for you, let me tell you that there’s three or four statues out front of two frogs hugging. Now ordinarily you’d probably think there’s nothing wrong with that, but the FROGS HAVE THEIR HANDS ON EACH OTHER’S ASSES. That’s right. You read right. We kept meaning to get a picture of it, but every time we drove by we either didn’t have the camera or couldn’t get the shot. You can get an idea of how disturbing the statues are by visiting the link above. They have a drawing of one of the statues. Some statues had both hands on the ass, some had only one hand on the ass. Regardless, it is truly the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen. Who even thinks of that? If you ever get down to Hawaii, you must visit and stare open mouthed at the statues. It is truly a sight to behold.

My wife and I were in Hawaii (Kauai and the Big Island) last year for our honeymoon. ok, after you get through the ooh’s and aah’s; the point is that we drove by this store several times (again, without taking a picture), and laughing quite hard (actually we thought it was funnier than your bit about Rolfing, but then again, I am a Certified Rolfer). It’s helpful that you included the Two Frogs Huggging web link as proof of this strange phenomenon.
Glad y’all got the same amusement out of it as we did.
Peace,
Robert Rex, Certified Rolfer (Really)

Robert-
LOL! Weren’t those statues totally disturbing? I mean seriously!
So it’s really true, then? You’re a rolfer? Such a thing exists?

I actually thought that the statues were kind of cute. If you are so offended by a couple of frogs grabbing a little ass you must live an extremely sheltered life. Do you live in a bubble by any chance? Maybe I have just been desensitized by working as a massage therapist and touching peoples butts on a regular basis but those statues were far from the most offensive thing I have seen lately.

Oh yes Kevin, I live in a bubble. And I’m very sheltered. We never see frog butts here in the bubble.

Sorry for the delayed reply, i am new to the bloggin’ thing, and didn’t think to check in after my initial response.
I didn’t so much think the statues were disturbing as just strange and funny, making one go “hmmm, what were they thinking?”
I don’t think i’ve really seen frog butts elsewhere either, maybe if i stare really hard at the pond when the peepers start going wild…around may here in Vermont.
And yes, Rolfing is Real (capitalized for effect). check out our newly live website, http://www.lightwavehealingarts.net to learn more about rolfing (my wife is the acupuncturist).
Anyway, y’all have a spectacular Thanksgiving!

Robert-
I think they are just weird. But I will inspect the pond by our house and look to see if they have their frog hands on each other’s butts. ;D
Everytime I hear rolfing, I start giggling again.

When I went to Kauai in 2000 with my best friend and her two children, we fell in love with the frogs, and each brought one home with us! I didn’t really notice the grabbing butt thing. I just thought they were cute hugging frogs. I am still not sure they aren’t just embraced in an innocent hug! (say I am living in my own bubble if you’d like). Two years later my best friend was killed in a car accident. Now, 5 years after her death, I am married with my own two babies, and i still have my frogs and i think of her everytime I look at them. I love my hugging frogs! This summer my husband and I will take our little girls to Kauai, and bring another set of hugging frogs home with us.(and maybe a set for the two children she left behind) I don’t think they are disturbing at all. They remind me of my best friend, who I miss everyday. Maybe they are grabbing eachothers butts, but I honestly never noticed, and I think they are sweet.

Hey Guys sure funny to read your responses to our store!
I apologize if our statues offend anyone….seriously, we never intended to upset anyone. It’s art. And it’s funny.
No private parts are showing, it’s just one Indonesian carver’s expression of art and we like the unusualness of it all.
Thanks for your support and hey Hang Loose!

Rudy- Your statues are awesome. It just sort of feels like you walked in on an intimate moment with some amphibians. Talk about AWKWARD! ;D
